NSS in Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, started initially on 24 Sept. 1972 in 04 Colleges (Govt. M.H. Ho me Science College, Kesarwani College Jabalpur, Govt. Engineering College, Hitkarini College) involving 400 volunteers. The scheme has grown over the years and is functional with full swing today with an involvement of more than 18,000 volunteers spread over in 250 Colleges. The efforts of NSS volunteers have been widely acclaimed by the community, universities, colleges and general public for their selfless services to the cause of society. The main aims and objectives of NSS is Community Service through Education and Education through Community Service. The specific objectives are
Understand the community in which they work
Understand themselves in relation to their community Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problemsolving
Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
Gain skills in mobilizing community participation
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
Practice national integration and social harmony
