Vision and Mission
This Department believes that the liberal arts in general and the humanities in particular, are essential to the holistic development of the individual and the creation and establishment of a caring, just and equitable society. Literature as the core of the liberal arts is both a means to that end and an end in itself, while English is at once an international language, a link language and an Indian language. Studying English at the Master's level and beyond should open up the minds and hearts of students and empower them to reach the land 'where the mind is free...'
The mission of the Department is thus to empower students and researchers to discover themselves, to open up newer and newer horizons before them, to enrich their existence, and to empower them to advance in life as sensitive, independent, responsible individuals and citizens of India and the world.
